Show Time

show time, originally uploaded by Steve Loos.

A pair of young performers watch and wait during dress rehersal.  Low light theater photography can be challenging, but can produce beautiful images with the natrual theater lighting.

The Guardian

Mission San Juan Bautista, California.  I was scouting this location for an upcoming photoshoot, and took a moment to capture some of the iconic scenes in this historic mission.  The 21 California Missions stretch from San Diego (the first built, era 1769) in the south some 450 miles north to San Franicsco (the last built era 1823.)  These missions are historical landmarks and many still operate as Catholic Church, and run along the route known as Mission Trail, the path of modern day Highway 101.

This shot was taken in fading light, using a handheld 70-200mm lens with vibration reduction.

Artist Palette

Photographers often speak of their images as painterly, or, like a painting. That is how I felt when I first viewed this sunrise on a recent Hollister morning. Sharp jagged clouds layered against soft wisps of cloud, pastel colors mixed with bold vibrant tone. I shot this scene at both wide angle, normal and telephoto, and liked the slight telephoto of 85mm best as this showed both the intricate detail and softness in the clouds.

Late October and photographers are posting images of fall colors, storm clouds and peaks covered in early snow. Very cool , , , pun intended!
